Namaste! As you have read already, I am the founder and creative head behind Dancepiration NZ.
I was born in Delhi, India where I pursued Bharatnatyam training since the tender age of 6years old. Pretty quickly, I found myself dancing on stage in front of large live audiences in groups and solo - and before I knew it stage became my happy place.
Fast forward to when family decided to migrate to Auckland, New Zealand and growing up here, even though life happened but dance never left me and quite frankly I couldn't leave dance either. At any parties, put some Bollywood tunes on and pretty quickly you would see me on the dance floor.
Pure passion, training and dedication towards dance has led me to form this company where in now I aim to provide Auckland community with the best of Bollywood - be it workshops, event choreographies, wedding or simply performances at events.
I have performed at a variety of different shows and events across New Zealand.
It all began in late 80's, early 90's, when Mum had control over my life decisions and she decided to enroll me in Bharatnatyam classes. At the tender age of 6, that was one class I used to look forward to attending - clearly I didn't know then I was in creatives. Soon I became that student, who was always front and center on stage and in practices - I formed this unbreakable bond with dance before I even knew it.
However as it happens, life had other plans in store for me - as I was getting introduced and used to the world of Dance, my parents decided to migrate to Auckland, NZ (now my home), where I grew up. At this point, life kicked in and dance took a back seat. Although the little creative that was brewing in me could never stop dancing. Every time there was a party or any Bollywood tune played, I would be the first one on the dance floor or start dancing in front of the TV.
20 years later, life gave me a second chance at Dance, and this time I took it with both hands. Quite frankly, it was during COVID times that I started dancing again - one fine day, dancing in my garage, a choreography that I saw online which I really liked - I showed it to my mum and she said - "you learn this, I'll record your video" - It was that day and here we are today..
In 2024, I took a bold step of packing my bags and going to Mumbai, India for a month to train in Dance. I currently undertake formal contemporary training under the trainers of master Terence Lewis Sir and I have also had the privilege of meeting him in person. I have also had an opportunity to learn and collaborate with some of the famous dancers like Sunjoy Pradhaan, Anvi Shetty, Vikas Paudel, Noel Alexander to name a few.
Today, I can proudly say that what ignited in me as 6 years old now has a purpose and vision. Over the years of continued formal training, I have found my dance niche - specializing in contemporary style. I am on a mission to introduce technique based learning in New Zealand - through my workshops, collaborations and much more!
I conduct regular dance workshops, work in collaboration with artists from around the world, do wedding and event choreography and have my own podcast called - Dance Dialogues, where we talk about all things dance.
My journey has only just begun - and I can't wait to see where this journey takes me!
